My new girlfriend isn't into the speed boat thing. We wish to get a pontoon boat now and would entertain trade offers for one. My 2 boys and I love it and I'm sure they will be upset.
This boat is fast. Starts right up even after being stored all year or being run
all day. It will draw attention from those who know. People are impressed at
this old guys speed and that it is even in service. The motor has never been
apart and has the factory seals in place. Compression is on the very high side
and within 3 lbs of each other!! Sorry I can't remember the numbers.
I got this boat in '03 from a widow friend of mine who knew not how to work on it or even put it in the water. They had it for 10 years and it mostly just sat in their driveway needing attention. It sat unused for 3 years after her hubby passed. It fired right up even with 3 year old fuel in it. It has been a great project and needs very little work to complete depending on the level of restoration you want to do. Most are cosmetic and little things at this point and I could give a list of things that I would do based on my knowledge of this boat. I took it out with the boys at least 3 or 4 times a week for the first 2 years after I got it. Got to know it well and got the bugs worked out. It has been very reliable.
New (late '05) heavy duty axel and hubs.
New lights (early '03)
New ('03) water pump.
Carbs overhauled in ('03)
Tune up (late'05) points, plugs, condensers, cap, coils, carbs cleaned, new fuel
lines where needed.
New rebuilt starter (late '05).
New water jacket gasket ('04).
New Die Hard Marine battery ('02)
New upholstered seats front and rear ('04), some how got 2 very small tears now (kids lol).
